Valorant: Your Chat Is the Enemy Duelist

How to turn Valorant's quick modes into chat-controlled content using screen-only effects that stay away from Vanguard's input checks.

What a chat-powered Valorant stream looks like

You're holding an angle in Deathmatch, crosshair perfectly placed, and chat has just hit the message threshold. !Gray washes over your screen. Every enemy model is suddenly harder to pick out, and you take a fight you'd normally win easily. Chat spams KEKW, which counts toward the next unlock, and the cycle starts again.

Valorant is a game of precise crosshair placement and clean information, and that's exactly what screen effects disrupt. You don't need to touch the game's input at all to make chat feel like a real opponent. Ruining your visibility is enough.

Vanguard first: what never to enable

Valorant requires Riot Vanguard, a kernel-level anti-cheat that runs from boot and stays active in every mode, including Deathmatch and custom games. Riot hasn't published any policy permitting input automation. Challenger Bot's keyboard and mouse commands generate real input through AutoHotkey or pynput, so the rule is simple:

  • Keyboard and mouse commands stay off for Valorant. Always. That includes !WtoS, !AtoD, !MouseFlip, !Drunk, !Turtle, !Jump, !NoJump, !Slippery, !DropIt, !AltTab, !Random and !Invert (which presses a Windows shortcut for you).
  • Screen commands are the toolkit. They draw overlays or change Windows display settings without sending input. That's lower risk but not zero, since Riot hasn't approved any third-party tool.

Switch commands off individually in Challenger Bot's Config page before you launch the Riot client. The reasoning is on the anti-cheat page.

A Valorant command loadout

CommandEffectWhy it works in Valorant
!FlashRandom full-screen white flashes that fade outChat gets to be the enemy Phoenix. Flashes are spaced at least a second apart, so it isn't a hard strobe
!GraySemi-transparent gray overlayKills the contrast you rely on to spot enemy outlines
!DVDA logo bouncing around the screenHolding an angle becomes a gamble on where the logo goes next
!RotateDisplay flipped 180°Upside-down crosshair placement makes for a great clip
!ZoomWindows Magnifier zooms the screen inTurns every rifle into a scoped weapon you can't unscope
!TunelDrops your screen resolution to the smallest supported modePixel-hunting at low resolution. Test it before going live, because resolution switches can make the game window re-scale

Valorant rounds are short, so a 30-second default duration can cover a whole round. Shorten it, or raise the cooldown, if you want chat's effects to land in specific fights rather than every one. See the command reference for every setting.

Valorant stream formats

Deathmatch: "survive the chat"

Set a public goal, such as first to 40 kills or a top-three finish, and let chat throw everything in the screen loadout at you. Deathmatch is solo, so nobody else pays for chat's fun. Put your kill count and the active challenge on screen, and every unlock becomes a small plot twist.

Swiftplay and Spike Rush: chat as a sixth player

Short matches keep the energy high and the stakes low. A good rule: chat can only fire !Rotate or !Zoom on pistol rounds, so they save up their messages and the big moments land when you're most exposed.

Custom games with your community

Custom lobbies with your regulars are the best Valorant format. Your viewers are in the game and in chat at the same time, trying to unlock effects on you while they push your site. Because it's a private match, nobody's rank is at stake.

Competitive: bot off, stakes on

Turn Challenger Bot off for Competitive. A chat-triggered gray screen in a ranked match costs four teammates RR they never agreed to risk. Running ranked clean and then switching to chaos modes as a reward also gives your stream a clear structure.

Setup tips for Valorant streamers

  • Use Windowed Fullscreen. Overlay commands draw a window on top of the game, and that's reliable when the game isn't in exclusive fullscreen.
  • Check the overlay on stream, not just on your screen. Run a test with OBS recording and make sure what chat triggered shows up on the broadcast.
  • Match the threshold to your chat. The default is 10 messages across everyone. If emote spam after every kill unlocks challenges too often, raise it.
  • Show who did it. Challenger Bot writes the active challenge and top chatter to files you can add as OBS text sources. Seeing their name on stream is the biggest reason viewers keep chatting.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Challenger Bot while playing Valorant?

Only with the keyboard and mouse commands switched off. Valorant runs Riot Vanguard, a kernel-level anti-cheat that is always active while you play, and Riot has published no policy permitting input automation. Screen commands such as !Flash, !Gray and !DVD don't send input and are the lower-risk option, but they aren't officially approved either.

What Valorant mode is best for chat-controlled streaming?

Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Swiftplay, Spike Rush and custom games. Rounds are short and nobody's rank depends on you. Avoid Competitive: chat-triggered effects would hand rounds to the enemy team at your teammates' expense.

Why doesn't the overlay show up over Valorant?

Overlay windows draw reliably when the game isn't in exclusive fullscreen. Switch Valorant's display mode to Windowed Fullscreen and the overlay commands will appear over the game.
